Maysaa Kassir

Lebanese, born 1976

Born in war-torn Beirut, Lebanon. For the first two decades of my life, I witnessed the darker side of humanity. My early curiosity towards creativity led me to study interior design, but life took me on a different path and spent 16 years in Africa to return back home as a mother of 3 kids. I felt a burning desire to follow my artistic passion, graduated at age 45 with Master degree in fine arts at the Lebanese University. My artworks have been showcased in national and international exhibitions including Canada, Turkey and Dubai.

My art has evolved with time and experience, finding its purpose and identity. It has become a beacon for divine feminine energy, I explore with mixed media on canvas the journey of self-discovery, and a profound connection to the mother of life inspired by our ancestors from different cultures, my artwork celebrates feminine strength and resilience, encouraging women to explore their inner selves beyond societal expectations.

My inspiration

I found the goddess Venus coming to life in her different dimensions. Her function of love, beauty, desire, fertility and prosperities are in full flow. In a world where women often feel physically inferior, it is only natural to dig within and be spiritually superior.  I have evoked in my artworks the roots of our civilization. Venus “the Roman goddess”, The goddess of love and beauty, desire and sex, fertility and motherhood, prosperity and victory, the symbol of struggle and freedom, the symbol of the creative power that sustains the causes of life, the symbol of the revolutionary woman, the symbol of the sacred woman, in Roman mythology. Venus is a symbol of every woman with different aesthetic standards that have changed according to the urgent need in the philosophy of civilizations throughout history.

Technique & Medium

I had the opportunity to dive deep into the ocean and learn & absorb about the stunning nature under the water in its spiritual colors closest to the soul, its memory was in my unconscious mind and the blue color dominated most of my paintings to express my feelings and emotions. Acrylic colors are applied in different techniques, other mediums & materials might be added in the paintings, such as charcoal to create tones & values, Oil pastel, soft pastel, ink, pigments, colored papers, fibers, white paste, and white cement to add volume & texture.
